The Kirtland Temple was the first LDS temple. It was built in the 1830s. The woodwork was amazing and it was interesting to see because of all the church history that happened there. However, it is no longer owned by the LDS Church, it belongs to the Community of Christ and they won't let us take pictures inside.
This is Newel K. Whitney's home, intresting for two reasons. The prophet Joseph Smith stayed here with his family when they first came to Kirtland and because it's painted yellow. Yellow was an expensive color back in the 1800s and if your house was yellow it meant you had a lot of money. Just an interesting tidbit.
This is the N. K. Whitney Store. This was the general store for the area and home to the School of the Prophets, where missionaries learned the fundamentals of the gospel before heading out on missions.
I was amazed by the cabinets in the store. This is just one example. The woodwork was fascinating and all done by hand.
This is the room that housed the school of the Prophets that trained missionaries. They had many spiritual experiences here. I felt the love of God strongly in this room.
