10/21 - Iowa has had some crazy rain this year. It's been so bad that they had to shut down all rail traffic for a few days and close the interstate. The people just north of us couldn't use their water for days and some people were relocated. FEMA gave our town some money to revamp our drainage and sewer system which will help the flooding go down. Our house is right on the path of the new line. We are so thankful for the benefits of this in the future keeping our house safe and they were pretty quick at fixing our street and moving on. They were only blocking our driveway for a few days. In the meantime the kids got ample entertainment out of watching the big loaders, excavators, and bobcats out our windows. The best was baby Alex. He loved to watch. We got tired of standing there holding him so he could see so we brought his jumperoo over by the window and he was just tall enough to see out. He was so cute when he'd get excited he'd jump higher and faster and otherwise he'd just peacefully watch until he got hungry again. It was so nice!
10/22 - We went to the Orchard again. Seriously love this place and the re- modeling they did this year. This time we raced ducks together. The big kids, with a little help from Dad, raced each other. It was close but Spencer won.
Then Amelia and I worked together. She was great at helping but was sad to see her duck get further away with every pump of the handle.
Next we stopped by the horses. Amelia was excitedly pointing them out so I thought she wanted to go see one, silly Mommy! I got over there and she just screamed! I was holding her on my hip and her little feet dug so hard into my thighs that I got bruises. Poor traumatized baby!
Miya loved saying hi to them though as always.
We continued our rounds with a stop by the goats. Spencer was excited to feed them but always singles out the goat he wants to feed and gets upset when another goat tries to take the food. In an effort to feed his choice this time he went over away from where they were packed in and called to the one he wanted to feed. Unfortunately no one listed and he was left there with his hand through the hole feeding none of them. He gave in and came back to the group and gave it to the most enthusiastic one there.
The chickens continue their reign as the favorite animal this year. They were so excited to eat everyone's offerings. Miya had a little ornery streak because she only put one kernel of corn down the shoot at a time and watched them all to see who could get there first.
Spencer also took his first ever picture. Aaron and I were the kissing pigs and he did a great job looking at the screen and making sure we were in the picture. He totally has a future as a photographer.
We ended the day with Amelia running through the time tunnel and I got a really cute picture of her so happy and sweet. We love the Orchard!
