Carving the Pumpkins

By the time we got home and had dinner after acquiring the pumpkins there wasn't enough time to carve them so we ended up carving them last night (Tuesday). Miya meticulously drew on her pumpkin, not what shape she wanted for the face, just fun stuff. It was pretty cute to watch her concentrate.


When we opened the pumpkins Spencer said it looked like cheese. He was quite excited about the special pumpkin cheese. Feeding off his excitement Miya took a bite but really really hated it and couldn't get it out of her mouth fast enough. Which is too bad because the yuck face would have made a great picture.

Spencer really liked this part. "I dig the pumpkin. It's a big hole!" He didn't actually remove any of his goo he just pushed it around in there with his spoon. I had to help him with the removal then he was all convinced that the filling was for a pie because, after all, it was pumpkin filling just perfect for a pumpkin pie right? Yuck.



The sound you hear in the background is the squeaking of the pumpkin as Aaron tried to carve it. It was really stiff. I tried to cut into it and couldn't even insert the knife. Aaron said he's played with wood softer than that and that it must have been a safety pumpkin to protect against all those pumpkin smashers that go around.

Spencer loves his pumpkin. From the time we got it on Monday night until we carved it on Tuesday he carried it around, cuddled with it, watched some shows. All he wanted to do to make it better was to make his pumpkin smile. It was ridiculously hard to carve but we made his pumpkin smile and he loved it even more!

Here's Miya with her finished project. She thought the "hat" was the best part of the pumpkin and was actually not interested in the rest. She kept taking the hat off and putting it back and saying, "there pumpkin, welcome!"

Here we all are with our pumpkins. They are in the same order we are. I tried to go with a devil pumpkin this year but our carving utensils (steak knives) left something to be desired. Spencer said it looks like a scary cat. Either way it was fun.
